Why is roofing Ventilation important?

In case you didn't know already, It is very important to provide your home with proper ventilation. This process involves the roof/attic, to allow the exit of hot & cold air during the respective seasons. Without proper ventilation, the hot or cold air will stay trapped in the attic. This can cause other problems in your home.

Roof ventilation, when done right, will help regulate the temperature of your home. Not allowing enough hot air to escape will start to create an area of moisture. Moisture brings insects and other unwanted problems. It will be the same scenario with not allowing cold air to escape, your heater will be functioning longer in order to keep your home warm. This can be a hefty bill if your home uses an oil powered heater.

Ridge Vents: These vents are the most common types of exhaust vents. This vent goes across the peak of a roof after creating a 2 inch gap. It is important to realize that this needs to be in combination with soffit intake vents in order to let the HOT air escape and be pushed out from the cooler air entering.

Box Vents:  This type of ventilation is normally used in place of ridge vents. Typically a homeowner will add these in an area where there is no safe way to install a Ridge Vent.

Hard wired Powered Roof fans: These types of Fans have their pros and cons. Not only do they use up more electricity on their own, but they have the tendency to pull out all the hot & cold air. This causes your Air conditioning unit to work longer than it normally would to keep it cool or warm.

Solar Powered Ventilation Fans: Provide the home with the same services as the Hard wired fan, except there’s no electricity being drawn from the home. The fan is still too powerful and might affect other functions in your home.

Gable Intake Vents: These vents are usually seen at the highest point around the home. They naturally allow the air flow into the attic and push through the next exhaust exit.
